Christmas Memories

I cannot think of one specific Christmas memory that sticks out in my mind as being the "best". I had a great childhood and my parents always made Christmas a special time for the family. Besides Christmas shopping, there was always the decorating, the baking, the family get-togethers, the Christmas TV programs we gathered around to watch as a family, etc. My mom has been gone for a couple of years and had been sick for a couple of years prior to her passing. Christmas Eve Day is always a tough day for me now. Our family did our major celebration on Christmas Eve, so that meant that day was spent preparing for the event. That is what I did for many years. We still celebrate with extended family on Christmas Eve, bit it certainly isn't the same without mom. Now on Christmas Eve Day, my husband, sons, and I have created our own tradition. We decide as a family what movie to go watch at the theater, watch it, then head off to the family Christmas celebration!

Hi Debbie!
I feel the same way about Christmas. My mom was ill with lung cancer and passed away on Dec. 21st (when I was 27 years old). This day and the rest of the days leading up to Christmas are always tough for my family because mom always went all out on Christmas just like a kid in a candy store. The wonderful memories of her enthusiasm and the traditions are still celebrated as part of our celebration every year. God Bless you and your family.

My parents live in California so I don't spend time with them on Christmas. We try to see each other sometime during the holiday season, but it doesn't always work out. I had never really sat down and though what it would be like during this time if either of them was gone. Who would make the gingerbread men and the fruitcake? I can't imagine what it would be like for one of them to go through Christmas without the other. You must have a strong heart and a great family to get you through it each year.
