Issue In Education - School Uniforms

I never gave much thought to school uniforms until I started working as a school nurse in the secondary setting of public schools. Well, well...I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but there are girls who just look like floozies! At least the high school this year the dress code is attempted at be inforced a little more. I feel bad for the male staff who are suppose to get after the girls whose breasts are half hanging out of their shirts. Then some girls want to know why the staff member is looking at their chest! I could only image how uncomfortable that would be for the staff person. As far as the boys go, I get tired of reminding them to pull up their pants. Remember the day when it use to be embarrassing if anyone saw our underwear? We are also starting to see the colored headbands with some of the kids. They are denying any "gang affiliation", but who knows? I guess I am sounding old and grouchy, but as far as I am concerned, bring the uniforms on!!!

Hi Debbie, I agree with you. I am tired of seeing all the underwear. The boys are worst than the girls now. Sometimes I want to disinfect the chairs after the boys have been sitting on them with their underwear.
We have kids starting to wear the banades as a head scarf too. Kind of scary.

I love uniforms!! We,of course, have uniforms at our school. As a parent and teacher, it is a blessing. Not only are uniforms cheap, but we don't have to worry about inappropriate attire and body parts oozing out.

Hi Debbie!
It seems like uniforms would be the simple way to go! We have the same issues at the high school. Most staff will send the student that has clothes that are to revealing to the office. They either call home for a change of clothes or the office will let them borrow a shirt to wear (which aren't usually the most attractive shirts). This has deterred alot of young ladies. The young men have the problem with baggy pants. I must be an old fuddy duddy because I don't see anything attractive about baggy, saggy pants. I suppose there is something about freedom of choice and expression that applies. I think that it distracts others from what is important!

I agree with not wanting to see the underwear! I often wonder why parents buy the clothes I see the girls in. I don't have kids, but I wouldn't let my daught walk out of the house wearing some of the things my students wear. As a parent I would think uniforms would be great...less money spent on NAME BRANDS!!

As long as short were part of the teacher uniform I would be ok. Students wearing what they do today in middle school and high school is one of the main reasons I don't consider teaching at that level. It's one less thing for a male teacher to have to worry about.
